Rating and reviews — Look at volume, not just score. A 4.7 on 8 reviews tells you less than a 4.4 on 200.
Neighborhood fit — Is the home conveniently located for your family and for the services you're planning?
Cultural experience — Does the funeral home have experience with your community's traditions? Call and ask directly.
Corporate vs. independent — Family-owned independents often provide more personalized service; corporate homes may offer broader resources. Neither is inherently better.
Price transparency — Ask for the General Price List before making any commitment. Homes that are reluctant to share it are a red flag.
